NAT—Support of H.323 v2 Call Signalling (FastConnect)
This feature module describes the Cisco IOS Network Address Translation (NAT) support of
H.323 version 2 (v2) call signalling including fast connect.•
Supported Standards, MIBs, and RFCs
Feature Overview
Cisco IOS NAT supports all H.225 and H.245 message types, including FastConnect and Alerting, as part of the H.323 v2 specification.
Previously, NAT only supported H.323 version 1 and that was specific only to the Microsoft NetMeeting application. With this enhancement, any product that makes use of these message types will be able to pass through a Cisco IOS NAT configuration without any static configuration.
One such product is the Cisco voice gateway. As of Cisco IOS software Release 12.1(1)T, support for H.323 v2 and the FastConnect message type has been implemented.
Note
Cisco IOS NAT currently does not support Registration Admission and Status (RAS), so voice gateway to voice gateway connectivity was tested without the use of RAS to resolve a destination.
Benefits
•
Ability to use the Cisco voice gateway product through a Cisco IOS NAT configuration
•
No static configuration is required within NAT for H.225/H.245 products
•
Ability to perform IP address translation on traffic flowing between voice gateways, which could be from the following:
–
Networks with the same IP addressing schemes
–
A private address scheme connecting to the outside or public
–
Networks that want to hide their real IP addresses from the public
